Witton Castle is a much altered 15th c castle, and has played host to provide a wonderful coursefor theZetland point to point for over 35 years. Established on a reclaimed site by the late hunting and racing enthusiast Ernie Fenwick, its annual meeting will be held on SUNDAY MAY 2nd,not on its traditional May Bank Holiday due to the alteration of this public day later in the week to coincide with VE celebrations.
All the facilities are neatly located on a hill, in front of the castle,which also acts as a natural grandstand toprovide superb viewing for all racegoers to watch the racing circumvent the right handed galloping flat track around the trout lakes. The course can be watered as and when demanded. It is a great day out with a good picnicking area, hog roast, licensed bar and car parking.
All 6 raceswill continue to be sponsored by long established local companies, including Bristol Street Motors, Ripon Farm Services,Sherwoods,Greensleeves and SG Petch Motors and Todds Highways. The sponsorship tent is renowned for first class hospitality and a limited number of tickets can be purchased in advance to members of the public. The course is 5 milesW of Bishop Auckland nr A68, 12 miles from A1 (M). DL14 0DE.
