THE ZETLAND HUNT SUPPORTERS CLUB.
The Supporters Club was formed under the guidance of Capt. MacAndrew, Joint Master & Huntsman. At a meeting on 5th November 1958 a committee was elected to carry on the affairs of the Club and in so doing, help to foster good relations and create a bond of interest among those who had only a vague knowledge of hunting. Whereupon the late John Graham of Barforth Hall, Winston became the Club’s first Chairman, with Messrs. R Wormald and G Vayro representing the nucleus of the committee, along with Commander O. Fogg-Elliot, Secretary to the Hunt, taking on the secretarial duties of the Supporters Club. With the thought in mind that other members would be co-opted onto the committee as required, £100 was given by the Hunt to get the Supporters Club under way, this amount being repaid to the Hunt in 1959 and ever since the club has been on its own footing.
Over the period of time many ventures have been tried, one in particular being the Miss Zetland Beauty Competition.
And so an extract from the ‘Red Book’ in 1980 describes the formation of a very important part of the Zetland Hunt.
The Supporters Club provides a link between those on foot or in cars and the mounted Subscribers. It also acts as a fund raising body to assist in the very expensive running of a successful Kennels.
In recent years the Supporters Club has included the Subscribers automatically as part of its membership and produces a Newsletter informing members of forthcoming events, meets, news etc.
The ZHSC has the use of The Arches (rooms above the stables at the Kennels) for its meetings and runs various functions there. The members assist at the Point To Point meetings and the Aske Horse Trials and run the very popular Farmers Ball at The George, Piercebridge.
The committee comprises of 12 members chaired by Mrs Christine Farnaby. The current membership fee is £10 per annum.
