Update from Chairman Nick Straker 13th May 2020

ZH News

Kennels

The hounds are in good shape, but it will obviously not be possible to hold the Puppy Show as originally planned in June.  The Masters hope to hold some form of Puppy Show either virtual or real in late July or August and further information will be forthcoming in due course depending on how we progress with the Coronavirus during the summer.

Imogen has been furloughed, but all other kennel staff are still fully employed.  Imogen's furloughing will extend to the end of June then we will review the position again at that time.

There was an appeal for sponsors for stable doors which badly needed replacing and I am pleased to say that the sponsorship has now been filled following an overwhelming response.  I am very grateful to all the sponsors and we will have an opening party for the stable doors in due course when they are installed.

Fund Raising

A lot of the fund raising activities such as the Point to Point, Summer Barbecue etc., have had to be put on hold following the lockdown as a result of the outbreak of Coronavirus.  There are some events that can continue and we have a watching brief on the ongoing development during the summer.

Jimmy Wilson-Petch has agreed to run a 100 Club and will send out details in due course.  We had a successful 100 Club a few years ago and I hope that this will be equally well supported.

William Snaith has agreed to run an auction on-line later in the summer and again details will be forthcoming on this.If you have any lots that you are prepared to put forward then please contact William directly.

If anybody else has any good ideas for fund raising to keep the show on the road please let me or one of the Committee members know.

Finance

We were fortunate to complete last season before the outbreak of Coronavirus and we are in good shape at this time.  As mentioned above, fund raising has then dried up but this has been countered to some extent by a grant from Central Government of £10,000 to keep the business going for the summer.  Furloughing Imogen has also allowed us to reduce expenditure which should help.

We are now into the new season from 1 May and I hope that members will consider subscribing early or by direct debiting/standing order mandate to help cashflow.  Again, if you would like to discuss this please contact The Hon Treasurer, David Anderson.

The Hunt are considering taking advantage of a possible bounce-back loan to purchasea vehicle to help improve and advance the flesh collection run by the kennels.

Hunt Secretary

Very sadly Louise Todd has handed in her resignation as Hunt Secretary and I would just like to say how grateful I am to her for all the work she has done over the last few years.  I will miss her guidance and help.

We are now looking for a new Hunt Secretary and if anyone would like to apply please contact me directly on 07860 725158 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
